What are you trying to teach as a yoga teacher, not just on the surface but at the deep reaches? What are you aiming to learn or gain as a student? What is it that motivates you to teach and to practice? How are you teaching that? How do you approach learning the intended outcome?!
How do you take where you are as a teacher and/or student and move the needle of intention closer to the outcome? How do you adapt or toss the things that aren’t working, create new practice and teaching techniques for the ones that get tossed? How do you create a practice experience that is effective, personal and your own both as the teacher and the student?!
Teaching and practicing yoga in group classes can be a beautiful and inclusive experience of individual self discovery, but it can also be one that feels impersonal, exclusive, and about just trying to keep up to please everyone! The community aspect of a yoga practice is one of the things that a lot of students love and it can be expanded to be more inclusive and personal, leading to more acceptance and ease within each student.
The information and tools that we are trying to teach are sometimes missed and can be difficult to integrate and understand as the student. How do you teach people to make skillful choices as an individual within a group setting? How do you make it safe for students to explore their individuality and their patterns of belief? How do you facilitate student choices that may be different than usual, even confrontational to you as teacher?!
Every body is different. Every mind is different. There are so many diverse styles of classes these days. What each person needs in order to learn the concepts presented in yoga is unique. Come spend a weekend with Alexandria Crow taking all these seeming differences of body, mind, and style of class and work to create a classroom experience that is deeply personal and individually effective.

Sessions will include practice, lecture on the topic, mechanics/anatomy of the body, and class planning worksheets and tools.

FRIDAY, January 4th 6pm-9pm
Yoga - What Are You Aiming For?
Intention + Outcome = Yoga Practice > Yoga as Outcome
Yoga Philosophy & History
What is this word yoga? Where did it come from? How has it morphed and changed over the years through its many shifts and changes? What is a practice and what has it been through the ages?
In this workshop we will look at the history of yoga as it moved through time and cultures to examine what the practices were aiming to teach and how. We will discuss what it is we’re aiming to teach our students today, where those concepts came from historically, and what methods we are currently using. How do you teach and access these concepts currently in the style of classes you teach or take? How do we bring the intention and outcome closer together? How do we allow our students to access that information more readily? This session will include a short practice and tools to begin to assess where teachers and students are in terms of intention and outcome in their teaching and practice.

SATURDAY, January 5th, 1pm-4pm
Bodies, Joints, Muscles & Poses - Stability, Mobility, Range of Motion & Asana
Intention + Outcome = The Body’s Makeup, Mechanics & Movements > Anatomically Wise and
Sustainable Practice Building Applied Anatomical Concepts For Asana Teachers and Practitioners
How do bodies move? Learn about how muscles work, release and stabilize to move the body and hold it in position. How far should joints move? When is it not enough and when do they go too far? We will look at the different variables involved in stability, mobility, range of motion and the postures that are taught in most yoga classes today. We will debunk the concept of stretching and flexibility and rebuild those components in ways that are aligned with how the muscular and fascia systems work. Skeletal variations and differences will be discussed in order to set up postures in a way that is wise for each individual. We will look at poses through the lens of muscular activation, release, stability, and potential counter productive sensations, creating a sensory experience in class that invites each student to use the poses and movements as a tool for personal learning, exploration and skillful choice making.

SATURDAY, January 5th  5pm-8pm
Fire - Physically Demanding Hard Work With A Twist!
Intention + Outcome = Work the Body Wisely > Calm The Mind
Vinyasa/Power/Flow/Hatha
These are some of the most popular classes at this point in time, and yet some of the most difficult within which to achieve the outcome that a yoga practice intends philosophically. How do you get students to work hard, move, and do it with ethical integrity? This session will contain a practice based around the vinyasa/power model that takes individuals and personal choice into account, allows for exploration and discovery, is physically
demanding but also limits the risks and pitfalls in classes today. We will deconstruct the postures and activities used during the practice from an anatomical and biomechanical standpoint. Functional range of motion vs limited range vs hypermobility will be discussed as they are important physical considerations to take into account within this type of class. The expectations of students and teachers in relation to this class style will also be discussed and alternatives that offer the same outcome without the problematic components will be offered in an effort to marry the intention and outcome of these classes in relation to a yoga practice more closely than is often possible.

SUNDAY, January 6th,  1pm-4pm
Calm - Quieting the Noisy Body/Mind Loop! Intention + Outcome = Balance the Nerves > Calm The Mind Restoratives/Yin/Therapeutics
The nervous system states, skeletal range, and basic biomechanics in relation to commonly taught restorative/yin/therapeutic classes. We will explore how the nervous system affects the body, its range of motion, the mind, and more.
There will be an hour long assessment inventory and practice where students will set a baseline of their personal range of motion and skeletal structure both before and after a class aimed at calming and balancing their nervous system.
The practice will be followed by a deconstruction and reconstruction of common postures within these styles in an effort to have them function more effectively and to lessen injury and/or calm a heightened nervous system. We will explore the joint’s range of motion in relation to poses, and find ways to create postures that fall within the functional range in an effort to create a sustainable and calming class outcome.

SUNDAY, January 5th,  5pm-8pm
Class Planning Laboratory - Purposeful Creativity!
Intention + Outcome = Lesson Plans For Personal Exploration & Discovery > Students Who Know
What Is Wise For Them & How To Advance
Sequencing and Formatting Classes
Class planning can be difficult, daunting and monotonous. In this session you will introduce how to plan classes using what you’ve learned no matter what the style or level. Students and teachers will work through planning a class from start to finish, using class planning tools designed to give students a personal experience in a group
setting so that they learn to approach the topic being presented in a way that is skillful and wise for them. Participants will then be led through the class that was created in an effort to experience the concepts presented and developed.
Participants will learn how to create class plans that turn classes into a personal laboratory that is inclusive, invites inquiry, creates a safe place for exploration and when necessary allows difficult choices to be made by students so that they learn what is wise for them which can translate clearly to applying yoga off the mat as well.
Class planning worksheets will be provided as well as emailed afterwards for continued use.

About Rhonda:

Rhonda is a RYT 500 through the training of two master teachers; Jacqui Bonwell of Sacred Seeds Yoga School (200 hours) and Natasha Rizopoulos of Down Under School of Yoga (300 hours). The influence of these two brilliant teachers has shaped her teaching and allowed her to find her own voice. She began her yoga practice several years ago, but at the time viewed it as an additional form of physical fitness. Rhonda was a fitness professional, cycling teacher, runner, skier, Power Pilates instructor and personal trainer who once dreamed of being a body builder. “It took me a long time to stay for Shavasana, but once I did, I immediately felt the effects of the practice and my life changed profoundly. Yoga helped me to find balance between strength and ease; between fear and ego and between breath and movement. Yoga allowed me to quiet my very busy mind and learn to enjoy the present moment”. Through certification and study on Yoga and Breast Cancer and the inspiration of a dear friend, Rhonda’s first students were undergoing treatment. She worked with students privately and through workshops she developed. Rhonda enjoys teaching public classes and private sessions and does so with intelligence and compassion. She teaches with attention to proper alignment and emphasizes staying present with breath and focus. Finding balance between Sthirha and Sukha (steadiness and ease) is what she strives for in herself and in her teaching. She learns something new from not only every class and workshop she takes, but from every student she meets. Rhonda owned, managed and taught at her own studio for 3 ½ years and while doing so developed The Beginners Yoga Series. She plans to continue to bring the series to the public. “My goal is to bring the joy and lasting effects of yoga to as many people as possible; hoping to bring positive change to the world, one yogi at a time”.

LPY 200-Hour FALL 2018 Certified Teacher Training w/ Lorraine Shedoudi

Double Certified!  200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certification & Balanced Athlete Certification

Whether your intention is to teach or just deepen your personal practice, the Lexington Power Yoga 200 hour teacher training program is designed in a way that encourages an authentic exploration and genuine understanding of yoga through critical analysis and direct experience. Together, we’ll witness the emergence of smart and confident teachers as well as wise and thoughtful practitioners.

This training will push you out of your comfort zone. You’ll have the opportunity to practice more deeply, explore yoga breath work (pranayama), practice meditation, and learn how to speak confidently in front of a class. We’ll explore what is happening anatomically when we ask students to move in and out of specific poses, injury modification, and how to teach to an ‘all levels’ group of students.

You’ll emerge with a deeper, more comprehensive understanding of yoga and how the yoga industry impacts the history and practice of yoga.

The training includes a Balanced Athlete Certification with founder, Johnny Gillespie. For the first time ever we will also be seeing traveling guests such as Alexandria Crow, creator of Yoga Physics. Alex’s unique perspective has revolutionized how we think about certain poses. Jacqui Bonwell will demystify the Yoga Sutras and the Chakras in a way that feels accessible. You’ll be learning from the best, the people who are helping to shape the yoga industry throughout the country.

The LPY training is unique in that it offers support and mentoring well after your certification is complete. As you go out into the yoga world and begin to navigate the business of teaching public classes, we’ll be there to support you.

The program’s lead teacher, Lorraine Shedoudi, has over 10 years of teaching experience. In her time at LPY, she has personally overseen the graduation of 7 groups of teacher trainees. Her commitment to continued education and her ability to share what she has learned makes for smarter, stronger and more well-rounded yoga teachers.

Along side Lorraine, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced and versatile lead teachers and mentors, Linda Spolidoro and Tina Adoniou, who bring their own expertise, years of practical teaching experience, and their own unique perspectives. Together, with this powerful staff you’ll be supported, encouraged, and eager to learn more.

What sets the LPY Teacher Training apart from other 200 hour trainings in New England is the fact that LPY is the ONLY program that not only provides you with a certification from Yoga Alliance but also a Balanced Athlete Certification from Johnny Gillespie. This is a Double Certification; 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certification & Balanced Athlete Certification.

LPY Master Class: How To Be A Beginner & Teach Beginners w/ Rhonda Skloff

We are all Beginners.  Each time we step on our mat it is a new experience, a new practice.  Approaching our own yoga practice with curiosity and without attachment to the results of our efforts is like being a beginner over and over for all of us.

Teaching to Beginners is challenging but is the most gratifying mode of teaching.  We as teachers have the awesome responsibility of opening the world's minds & bodies to the gift of yoga. To help people find balance & calm within themselves will inevitably make an impact on the people in their own lives and eventually change the world one yogi at a time.   I truly believe this.

I cannot wait to share The Beginners Yoga Series with you, how it has evolved and how it will have an impact on your teaching and on your own practice.

1-2:30p Lecture & Practicum

2:45-4 Class taught specifically for beginners

$35

Rhonda enjoys biking, skiing, paddle boarding, walking her 2 chocolate labs and spending time with her husband and two sons.

Restorative Yoga: Find Your Bliss with Keith Herndon

Friday Evening 7:30PM – 9:30PM $35

Come and experience Restorative Yoga; Let go of deeply held tensions and release into a space of deep bliss. This is wonderful compliment to a power practice.

Join Keith Herndon for two hours of Restorative Yoga. We will begin with about 20 minutes of flowing Kripalu yoga to warm up and prepare the body for the deepening and relaxing poses of Restorative Yoga. In these poses you will rest supported by cushions and blankets which will allow your whole being to fully let go.

Restorative Yoga is a therapeutic style of yoga, utilizing props to support the body in various postures which are held for about 10 minutes which allows the nervous system to completely quiet and return to a balanced state, while gently stretching and opening the body and quieting the mind. The body then begins to release long held habitual tension. Restorative Yoga cultivates the habit of attention, focusing on the breath.
LIMITED to 15 STUDENTS

Keith Herndon is a Lexington-based Kripalu Yoga teacher with a 500-hour Yoga Alliance certification. Keith is also a Kripalu Certified Restorative Yoga Teacher who has been teaching Restorative Yoga for 5 years.

LPY Master Class: Barre Method For Yoga Sequencing w/ Linda Spolidoro

LPY Master Class: Barre Method For Yoga Sequencing w/ Linda Spolidoro

Is Barre the yang to Yoga’s yin? I had a love/hate relationship with barre the first time I took a class. I’m a yogi after all, and that “do-what-feels-good-rest-when-you-want” attitude inherent to a good yoga practice was replaced with a “stay-in-it-and-let-it-burn” encouragement that made me shake, sweat, and swear under my breath. However, I found that by making barre classes a part of my routine, my yoga practice became stronger, more stable and safer. My knees stopped hurting, my flexibility inexplicably increased, and my high to low push-ups no longer put any strain on my low back. Oh, and my core, forget about it!!! I became ridiculously strong.

I began to incorporate much of what I learned and taught in my barre classes into my yoga classes both in my own practice and as a teacher. What I found was an effective, efficient, and beautiful synchronicity that helped me to move my students through smarter and more functional sequences, while awakening and creating a new kind of muscular strength. While the yoga poses generally target the bigger muscle groups in large ranges of motion, barre targets singular and often forgotten muscles in a sustained, targeted, and much smaller range.

We’ll learn about fast twitch muscles vs slow twitch muscles, why and what that burning sensation is, explore how to modify for injury while still targeting the desired muscle/s, how to add the ‘barre’ while sequencing in a way that keeps the ‘yoga’ and finally how the mindfulness, breathing, and connection to the body in yoga is the perfect compliment to the internal fortitude it takes to get through the barre exercises (and visa versa). The last hour of class will give you the opportunity to try it yourselves as I lead you through a one hour yoga/barre fusion practice.

1:00-2:45 Applied learning & Lecture

2:45-4:00 Flow taught through barre lens

Barre for Beginners with Adri Lopes

Barre for Beginners is a 120- minute workshop that introduces the basic form, alignment, and structure of the traditional movements and exercises you will encounter in a typical LPB class. Expect hands on, individualized attention while moving through even the most daunting barre exercises. Ever wonder what wide second, pretzel, back dancing, or c-curve are, or how they can transform the body and spirit? Come find out.

New students, curious students, and even seasoned veterans will leave feeling confident, determined, and certainly a lot stronger!

Barre was derived by combining Ballet drills with rehabilitative physical therapy, combining isometric strength training, ballet conditioning, pilates and yoga. The goal in barre is to target the muscles with intervals of ballet inspired isometric toning exercises combined with yoga-inspired stretching to lengthen the muscles. The LPB method is designed to build strength, stability, flexibility, and most importantly, longevity.

LPY Master Class: Your Authentic Self - Teaching Through The Enneagram w/ Michael Mann

LPY Master Class: Your Authentic Self - Teaching Through The Enneagram w/ Michael Mann

Learn how to use the Enneagram, a personality assessment designed for self-actualization, to see what's keeping you (and your students) from realizing your most authentic self. Because the Enneagram places a great deal of importance on energy, and views the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies as one, it goes hand in hand with a yoga practice.

We will learn about each of the nine types, their "samskaras" of anger, shame, and anxiety, and how the types correspond to the energy points of the head, the heart, and the gut. We will then explore how to custom make a yoga practice that allows each type to grow and thrive.

With further understanding of this system and how it dovetails with a yoga asana practice, you can infuse it into your teaching, especially with private clients, to help your students deepen their understanding of themselves and their practice.
