200-Hour FALL 2019/2020 Certified Teacher Training w/ Lorraine Shedoudi & Linda Spolidoro

A double certification 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training?!

Yes! Get a 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certification & Balanced Athlete Certification

Whether your intention is to teach or just deepen your personal practice, the Lexington Power Yoga 200 hour teacher training program is designed in a way that encourages an authentic exploration and genuine understanding of yoga through critical analysis and direct experience. Together, we’ll witness the emergence of smart and confident teachers as well as wise and thoughtful practitioners.

This training will push you out of your comfort zone. You’ll have the opportunity to practice more deeply, explore yoga breath work (pranayama), practice meditation, and learn how to speak confidently in front of a class. We’ll explore what is happening anatomically when we ask students to move in and out of specific poses, injury modification, and how to teach to an ‘all levels’ group of students.

You’ll emerge with a deeper, more comprehensive understanding of yoga and how the yoga industry impacts the history and practice of yoga.

The training includes a Balanced Athlete Certification with founder, Johnny Gillespie. For the first time ever we will also be seeing traveling guests such as Alexandria Crow, creator of Yoga Physics. Alex’s unique perspective has revolutionized how we think about certain poses. Jacqui Bonwell will demystify the Yoga Sutras and the Chakras in a way that feels accessible. You’ll be learning from the best, the people who are helping to shape the yoga industry throughout the country.

The LPY training is unique in that it offers support and mentoring well after your certification is complete. As you go out into the yoga world and begin to navigate the business of teaching public classes, we’ll be there to support you.

The program’s lead teacher, Lorraine Shedoudi, has well over 10 years of teaching experience. In her time at LPY, she has personally overseen the graduation of 7 groups of teacher trainees. Her commitment to continued education and her ability to share what she has learned makes for smarter, stronger and more well-rounded yoga teachers.

Along side Lorraine, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced and versatile lead teachers and mentors, Linda Spolidoro and Tina Adoniou, who bring their own expertise, years of practical teaching experience, and their own unique perspectives. Together, with this powerful staff you’ll be supported, encouraged, and eager to learn more.

What sets the LPY Teacher Training apart from other 200 hour trainings in New England is the fact that LPY is the ONLY program that not only provides you with a certification from Yoga Alliance but also a Balanced Athlete Certification from Johnny Gillespie. This is a Double Certification; 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certification & Balanced Athlete Certification.

FREE Community Workshops Hosted By Current 300-hour Graduates

Over the past year a dedicated group of yoga teachers have been working on advancing their careers and study through our 300 hour training program. A 300 hour can only be completed after an initial 200 hours have been done in order to become a registered yoga teacher. At the end of this training this group will have completed at least 500 hours of study. They have worked to hone their craft and will be presenting their graduation workshops to the public.

Please join us by just coming to the studio for the workshop you would like to take. The only workshop with an amount restriction is Saturday 9/21 at 2pm. Please see below for instructions on how to register for that class.

Saturday, 9/14- 2pm-4pm

Strength Fundamentals and Flow with Linda and Amira
Do you want to become a better, stronger and more functional athlete? Improve your asana practice? Your golf game? Your Cross Fit workout? Build the kind of strength needed to hold a solid plank, a handstand or a stable arm balance? Join Linda and guest teacher Amira for an all levels, strength focussed workshop. Amira is a 200 hour certified yoga instructor, a personal trainer and an endurance athlete. Together Linda and Amira will lead you through a fun and energetic flow set to a themed playlist with an emphasis on strength drills, functional movement, cardio endurance, and core stabilization, ending with a cool-down and well-deserved savasana.

Saturday , 9/14 6:00-8:00pm

Melissa and Meg- Yoga and Living your best life (recovery philosophy applied to all)

Yoga for Recovery Saturday, September 14th from 6-pm. We are all recovering from something: addiction, trauma, injury, life. Join Melissa Martel and Megan Vitale for a two hour workshop where we combine the teachings of yoga with the disciplines of the Twelve Steps. Our goal is that you will leave with the tools you need when you leave your mat and enter the real practice of life. We will start a description of yoga for recovery followed by a 45 minute open discussion where you can share or just hold space. We will then guide you through a 45 minute strength building slow flow with hands on assists and end with a guided mediation. Together we can heal one another and build community in a safe space. We are never alone, we are all in this together.

Sunday, September 15th - 6-8pm
GATHERING with Julianne & Jaime-Lyn
Autumn. It is the time of year when we transition from the warmth and exuberance of summer to the quiet reflection of fall. Let's gather together to honor the turning of the seasons, and cultivate a sense of grounding and stability. We will move through an earthy Vinyasa flow and end with cooling restoratives

Saturday, 9/21-2-4pm -FULL

Small Group - Big Results. How YOU should practice the poses with Jillian & Isabelle

Are you working with a tweaky knee, achy hips, bad back or a small injury or maybe just curious on how you really look when your doing that low push up (is your head hanging, shoulders rounded, hips sagging)? Join Isabel & Jillian for 90 minutes of focused small group time. We will be capping the size of this group at 8 and asking you to email us ahead of time with any questions or injuries you might be working with.

The saying that there is no "goal" for a yoga pose is so essential. You may think you have a "basic" pose mastered but Isabel and Jillian bet they can show you a more effective, stable and strength building way of taking that pose. We will break down common poses with each of you. Think - down dog, high push-up (to low), back bending poses, warriors, etc... We can show you how to take these poses to get stronger and be able to continue practicing them for years and years. We will also work with your body and an muscular imbalances that might be showing up to help you figure out how to use yoga and other methods of exercise to start to bring balance back. This won't be a flow class but we will tackle the elements you will find in one. Wear yoga clothes and bring water.

Saturday, 9/21 6pm-8pm

Meg and Joanne- balanced athlete functional movement

As with any program of movement, any program of exercise, we as yoga practitioners face injuries that often times limit or completely halt our abilities to practice without pain. Past practices have us blaming the activity as being the cause of the injury when in fact we as practitioners should be considering the way that we move through the modality, not the modality itself. While the activity, whether it be yoga, cross fit, running, lifting, etc and the movements attached to these activities should be one focus of our attention, of equal interest should be the genetic and traumatic patterns and our learned movements through years of repetition. It is only by studying our physical structure, analyzing individual asymmetries throughout the body, and then changing our movement patterns accordingly do we elevate our practice to a place where we can perform without injury.

Join Meg and Joanne for an overview of Balanced Athlete, where we combine functional movement with mindfulness in our yoga practice. By merging these ideas, we begin to move from a place of strength, of function and alignment, and it is from here that the mobility in our yoga practice evolves. We will begin this workshop with a presentation on main ideas and principles of the Balanced Athlete, ending with a practice that incorporates and integrates functional movement with yoga. The hope is that the practice will leave you feeling stronger, more solid and stable in your hand-to-core and foot-to-core connections. This workshop will provide the platform for how to begin to incorporate mindful movement based on individual bodies and patterns of movement in our everyday yoga practice.

Sunday, 9/22-2pm-4pm

Hannah and Paula- yin/meditation

Join us for a Two Hour Yin Yoga and Meditation workshop. Yin Yoga is a wonderful, complementary practice to more dynamic Yoga styles and offers an opportunity to slow down. You will experience longer held postures that help improve flexibility of the body and mind, interwoven with imaginative, guided meditation. Most postures are seated or supine and are suitable for all levels.

January 4-Week Beginners Yoga Series W/ Rhonda Skloff

Sessions will be: 1/22, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12

Tuesdays, 5:45pm-7pm

The Beginners Yoga Series was developed for people who are new to yoga, coming back to yoga or simply wanting to get back to the basics in a safe and welcoming environment.

Each class is designed to build upon each other leading up to a full flow and allowing you to feel confident joining a public yoga class. In this 4 week series you will be introduced to the core poses that make up a Vinyasa (flow) Yoga class.

Instructor and creator, Rhonda Skloff will break down each pose so that you will understand correct alignment and modifications for your own body and the importance of linking breath to movement. Most importantly, you will begin to learn the tools to quiet your mind, to find balance and to stay in the present moment. You will find after you step off your mat and your practice is finished, the yoga remains with you.

Do: Give yourself the gift of yoga; it will change your life. Don’t: eat within 2 hours before class, bring cell phone. Bring: yoga mat, towel, water bottle and a sense of adventure.

Tuition: $90 per student per 4 week series

$25 drop in if space allows

BEGINNERS WORKSHOP is Tuesdays, 5:45pm-7pm

NO GROUPONS, NO MAKE UP CLASSES, NO REFUNDS, NO EXCEPTIONS- Thank you.

About Rhonda: Rhonda is a RYT 500 through the training of two master teachers; Jacqui Bonwell of Sacred Seeds Yoga School (200 hours) and Natasha Rizopoulos of Down Under School of Yoga (300 hours). The influence of these two brilliant teachers has shaped her teaching and allowed her to find her own voice. She began her yoga practice several years ago, but at the time viewed it as an additional form of physical fitness.

Rhonda was a fitness professional, cycling teacher, runner, skier, Power Pilates instructor and personal trainer who once dreamed of being a body builder. “It took me a long time to stay for Shavasana, but once I did, I immediately felt the effects of the practice and my life changed profoundly. Yoga helped me to find balance between strength and ease; between fear and ego and between breath and movement. Yoga allowed me to quiet my very busy mind and learn to enjoy the present moment”.

Rhonda teaches with attention to proper alignment and emphasizes staying present with breath and focus. Finding balance between Sthirha and Sukha (steadiness and ease) is what she strives for in herself and in her teaching. She learns something new from not only every class and workshop she takes, but from every student she meets.

Rhonda owned, managed and taught at her own studio for 3 ½ years and while doing so developed The Beginners Yoga Series. She plans to continue to bring the series to the public. “My goal is to bring the joy and lasting effects of yoga to as many people as possible; hoping to bring positive change to the world, one yogi at a time”.

Rhonda enjoys biking, skiing, paddle boarding, walking her 2 chocolate labs and spending time with her husband and two sons.

What are you trying to teach as a yoga teacher, not just on the surface but at the deep reaches? What are you aiming to learn or gain as a student? What is it that motivates you to teach and to practice? How are you teaching that? How do you approach learning the intended outcome?!
How do you take where you are as a teacher and/or student and move the needle of intention closer to the outcome? How do you adapt or toss the things that aren’t working, create new practice and teaching techniques for the ones that get tossed? How do you create a practice experience that is effective, personal and your own both as the teacher and the student?!
Teaching and practicing yoga in group classes can be a beautiful and inclusive experience of individual self discovery, but it can also be one that feels impersonal, exclusive, and about just trying to keep up to please everyone! The community aspect of a yoga practice is one of the things that a lot of students love and it can be expanded to be more inclusive and personal, leading to more acceptance and ease within each student.
The information and tools that we are trying to teach are sometimes missed and can be difficult to integrate and understand as the student. How do you teach people to make skillful choices as an individual within a group setting? How do you make it safe for students to explore their individuality and their patterns of belief? How do you facilitate student choices that may be different than usual, even confrontational to you as teacher?!
Every body is different. Every mind is different. There are so many diverse styles of classes these days. What each person needs in order to learn the concepts presented in yoga is unique. Come spend a weekend with Alexandria Crow taking all these seeming differences of body, mind, and style of class and work to create a classroom experience that is deeply personal and individually effective.

Sessions will include practice, lecture on the topic, mechanics/anatomy of the body, and class planning worksheets and tools.

FRIDAY, January 4th 6pm-9pm
Yoga - What Are You Aiming For?
Intention + Outcome = Yoga Practice > Yoga as Outcome
Yoga Philosophy & History
What is this word yoga? Where did it come from? How has it morphed and changed over the years through its many shifts and changes? What is a practice and what has it been through the ages?
In this workshop we will look at the history of yoga as it moved through time and cultures to examine what the practices were aiming to teach and how. We will discuss what it is we’re aiming to teach our students today, where those concepts came from historically, and what methods we are currently using. How do you teach and access these concepts currently in the style of classes you teach or take? How do we bring the intention and outcome closer together? How do we allow our students to access that information more readily? This session will include a short practice and tools to begin to assess where teachers and students are in terms of intention and outcome in their teaching and practice.

SATURDAY, January 5th, 1pm-4pm
Bodies, Joints, Muscles & Poses - Stability, Mobility, Range of Motion & Asana
Intention + Outcome = The Body’s Makeup, Mechanics & Movements > Anatomically Wise and
Sustainable Practice Building Applied Anatomical Concepts For Asana Teachers and Practitioners
How do bodies move? Learn about how muscles work, release and stabilize to move the body and hold it in position. How far should joints move? When is it not enough and when do they go too far? We will look at the different variables involved in stability, mobility, range of motion and the postures that are taught in most yoga classes today. We will debunk the concept of stretching and flexibility and rebuild those components in ways that are aligned with how the muscular and fascia systems work. Skeletal variations and differences will be discussed in order to set up postures in a way that is wise for each individual. We will look at poses through the lens of muscular activation, release, stability, and potential counter productive sensations, creating a sensory experience in class that invites each student to use the poses and movements as a tool for personal learning, exploration and skillful choice making.

SATURDAY, January 5th  5pm-8pm
Fire - Physically Demanding Hard Work With A Twist!
Intention + Outcome = Work the Body Wisely > Calm The Mind
Vinyasa/Power/Flow/Hatha
These are some of the most popular classes at this point in time, and yet some of the most difficult within which to achieve the outcome that a yoga practice intends philosophically. How do you get students to work hard, move, and do it with ethical integrity? This session will contain a practice based around the vinyasa/power model that takes individuals and personal choice into account, allows for exploration and discovery, is physically
demanding but also limits the risks and pitfalls in classes today. We will deconstruct the postures and activities used during the practice from an anatomical and biomechanical standpoint. Functional range of motion vs limited range vs hypermobility will be discussed as they are important physical considerations to take into account within this type of class. The expectations of students and teachers in relation to this class style will also be discussed and alternatives that offer the same outcome without the problematic components will be offered in an effort to marry the intention and outcome of these classes in relation to a yoga practice more closely than is often possible.

SUNDAY, January 6th,  1pm-4pm
Calm - Quieting the Noisy Body/Mind Loop! Intention + Outcome = Balance the Nerves > Calm The Mind Restoratives/Yin/Therapeutics
The nervous system states, skeletal range, and basic biomechanics in relation to commonly taught restorative/yin/therapeutic classes. We will explore how the nervous system affects the body, its range of motion, the mind, and more.
There will be an hour long assessment inventory and practice where students will set a baseline of their personal range of motion and skeletal structure both before and after a class aimed at calming and balancing their nervous system.
The practice will be followed by a deconstruction and reconstruction of common postures within these styles in an effort to have them function more effectively and to lessen injury and/or calm a heightened nervous system. We will explore the joint’s range of motion in relation to poses, and find ways to create postures that fall within the functional range in an effort to create a sustainable and calming class outcome.

SUNDAY, January 5th,  5pm-8pm
Class Planning Laboratory - Purposeful Creativity!
Intention + Outcome = Lesson Plans For Personal Exploration & Discovery > Students Who Know
What Is Wise For Them & How To Advance
Sequencing and Formatting Classes
Class planning can be difficult, daunting and monotonous. In this session you will introduce how to plan classes using what you’ve learned no matter what the style or level. Students and teachers will work through planning a class from start to finish, using class planning tools designed to give students a personal experience in a group
setting so that they learn to approach the topic being presented in a way that is skillful and wise for them. Participants will then be led through the class that was created in an effort to experience the concepts presented and developed.
Participants will learn how to create class plans that turn classes into a personal laboratory that is inclusive, invites inquiry, creates a safe place for exploration and when necessary allows difficult choices to be made by students so that they learn what is wise for them which can translate clearly to applying yoga off the mat as well.
Class planning worksheets will be provided as well as emailed afterwards for continued use.
